Get Active Outdoors this Winter!
There are plenty of FREE opportunities to get out and get active this winter in the Town of New Glasgow. Head over to the West Side Community Centre and go skating on the outdoor rink.
Build a snowman
Make snow angels
Go sledding
Walk along the Pioneer, Johnny Miles Memorial and/or Samson Trails
Borrow a pair of Nordic walking poles from the New Glasgow Library and go Nordic walking
Shovel your driveway (and you could even surprise a friend, neighbor or family member and shovel theirs as well!)
Have a snowball fight
Build a snow fort
Participate in Recreation Nova Scotia's Take the Roof off Winter (TTROW) Photo Challenge
Borrow a pair of Snowshoes from the New Glasgow Library and go snowshoeing
Participate in the Winter Hiking Challenge and earn Hike Nova Scotia and Active Pictou County's Pictou County Hiker Challenge

Take the Roof Off Winter is Recreation Nova Scotia's winter active campaign that helps Nova Scotians of all ages improve their health and quality of life by being active during the winter months! This year they're partnering with the Healthy Tomorrow Foundation and their Make Your Move campaign. We hope to reach Nova Scotians far and wide with an interactive and educational campaign.

Winter Hiking Challenge

To encourage New Glasweigans to embrace the winter weather, get outside and stay active we're challenging YOU to complete the Pictou County Hiker Challenge from Hike Nova Scotia and Active Pictou County before the spring. To complete the challenge you must hike just over 30 km along the trails and old rails of Pictou County including the Samson Trail in New Glasgow, the Albion Trail in Stellarton, Steeltown Park and the Smelt Brook Trail in Trenton, the Jitney Trail in Pictou, the Caribou-Munroe’s Island Provincial Park Shoreline Hike in Braeshore, Acadia Park in Westville and the Fitzpatrick Mountain Trail in Scotsburn. NG residents who complete the challenge will have their Hike Nova Scotia badge paid for by New Glasgow Recreation (while supplies last). Contact us when you have completed the challenge. Snowman Building Contest

There's snow in the forecast this week so It's the perfect time to enter our Snowman Building Contest! The Contest will run all winter long, so make sure to get outside and build your best snowman each time it snows.
The contest runs from January 7th through March 21st, 2021.

There is no limit on the number of submissions per person.
Judging will take place the week of March 22nd
Winners will be contacted by April 1.
Prizes will be awarded for winners in each of the following categories:
Best Multicultural Snowman
Best Snow Creature
Most Colorful Snowman
Most Fashionable Snowman
