New Glasgow Regional Police are reminding motorists that May 31 is the last day drivers can operate with studded tires on their vehicles in Nova Scotia.
Under Section One of the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act under the Studded Tires Regulations it is illegal to operate a vehicle with studded tires between June 1 and Oct. 15.
In past years, the date was April 30 but with last year’s snow and ice it was charged due to public safety. The use of studded tires after the June 1 date carries a fine under the Motor Vehicle Act.
“Also, with the increased nice weather more pedestrians, children and cyclists will be on the road so it is important to drive defensively,” said Const. Ken MacDonald in a release.
On Tuesday April 24, 2018 at approximately 8:50 am, New Glasgow Regional Police, along with the New Glasgow Fire Department and Emergency Health Services responded to a two motor vehicle collision on Temperance Street New Glasgow.
The collision involved a 33-year-old female driving a 2010 Chevrolet Aveo. The second vehicle involved a1999 Toyota Tercel.
The 33 year old driver was charged with Failing to Yield to the Right of Way under the Motor Vehicle Act.
New Glasgow Regional Police are in the preliminary stages of the investigation and continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
New Glasgow Regional Police and the Trenton Fire Department are investigating reports of four grass fires in Trenton where one grass fire made contact with an vacant residence. New Glasgow Regional Police and New Glasgow Fire Department are also investigating one grass fire in New Glasgow.
When police and fire arrived the fire proved to be suspicious and the investigation continues.
Constable Ken Macdonald of The New Glasgow Regional Police states” under dry weather and windy conditions that were forecasted today, the fire may have had the potential to be very dangerous to life and property if it wasn’t for the quick reaction of Emergency responders.”
Police want to remind the public that in towns you cannot have open brush fires and in the county during the wildfire risk season (March 15 to October 15) all domestic brush burning and campfires must adhere to daily Nov Scotia burning restrictions. In Pictou County :Restricted burn day in now in place - Burning is permitted between the hours of 7pm and 8am the following day.
