  • In 1887, water was supplied from the East River by a pump house in Plymouth
  • In 1912, Forbes Lake was developed
  • Forbes Lake covers 72 hectares
  • In 1941, chlorine disinfection was introduced to the system
  • The Water Treatment Plant commissioning took place in August of 2000
  • A Defused Air Flotation Plant, it was the largest of its kind in Eastern Canada at the time of construction
  • The Forbes Lake Watershed was designated a Protected Watershed area in May of 2003
  • The Water Treatment Plant serves a population of about 15,000 people
  • Design Maximum Production is 15,500 m3/day; Daily Average consumption 8200 m3/day
  • The Water Treatment Plant has exceeded Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines for 9 consecutive years
  • The New Glasgow Water Utility is a regulated water utility; rates are set by the Utility and Review Board
  • The Utility is also regulated by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment

  • The New Glasgow Water Utility also works closely with the East River Environmental Control Centre

  • Water Environment Federation (WEF)

Craig has had 15 years of experience in Water Treatment. He began his career with the Town of Truro in 2000 and joined the Town of New Glasgow in 2002.
