Construction of Forbes Lake in 1912Construction of Forbes Lake in 1912

Forbes Lake was developed into a 72-hectare reservoir in 1912 and now supplies the towns of New Glasgow and Westville with water. In 2003, the area surrounding the lake was designated a Watershed Protected Water Area by the Province.

The Water Treatment Plant is a Defused Air Flotation Plant and was the largest of its kind in Eastern Canada at the time of construction in August 2000. The facility serves a population of about 15 000 people and has a daily average consumption of 8200 m3/day. The Water Treatment Plant has exceeded Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines for 9 consecutive years.
