Tax Sales
In accordance with the Municipal Government Act Section 143, The Town of New Glasgow holds Tax Sale Proceedings for properties that are two years in arrears.
Owners whose properties are in arrears for two or more years will be notified by the Town, in advance, that the property will be applicable for Tax Sale. Notices are mailed by ordinary mail to the last known address or posted on the premises if no such address is known. Owners will again be notified prior to sending properties to our solicitor for title searches.
After title searches are completed, all interested parties will then be notified by the Town through registered mail. At this time, all outstanding taxes and expenses related to the Tax Sale for the property must be paid to be removed from the Tax Sale Proceedings.
Tax Sale advertisements will be in local papers twice prior to the date of sale and will also be posted on the Town’s social media platforms.
The Town’s Tax Sale is an annual event that typically occurs in March. Interested parties will be able to view an up-to-date listing at Town Hall. The Tax Sale will be conducted as a public auction with the successful bid being the highest bid at or above the outstanding taxes, interest, and expenses (Tax Sale costs).
At the end of the redemption period, if applicable, the title shall pass to the successful bidder.
