News Release
New Glasgow Regional Police have arrested an adult male following a report of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) driving dangerously on East River Road and at several parking lots on Atlantic Drive.
On October 27, at approximately 9:04 p.m., New Glasgow Regional Police officers responded to a report of an ATV driving aggressively on East River Road and several parking lots on Atlantic Drive.
Through the investigation, officers observed that the ATV was driving dangerously in parking lot of a local restaurant, a parking lot of a movie theater, driving over a lawn at a business and driving on a nearby walking trail all with no helmet on. Under these conditions, including the time of night and pedestrian traffic significantly increased the risk to public safety.
Officers attempted to stop the ATV but the operator failed to stop. A pursuit was not initiated in consideration of public safety. As the driver attempted to flee from police, the ATV and police vehicle collided.
The operator, of a 30-year-old male from Pictou County, is facing charges of:
- Dangerous Operation;
- Flight from Peace Officer;
- Driving a Motor Vehicle while license revoked;
- Failing to wear a helmet as required;
- Operating off highway vehicle without required adequate third party liability insurance;
The 30-year-old was released on conditions and will be back in Pictou Provincial Court on December 2nd, 2024.
